Since 2021, I have become a teaching assistant at the School of Design. My teaching courses are usually practical, including social field research and design practice. These courses are carried out in a project-based manner and drawn from actual projects.
Our centre mainly researches sustainable development in poor villages. My job is to study the local culture and uniqueness through field research, and then cooperate with the team to produce design.
In the past two years, I participated in two projects, one in a town with rich bamboo forests, and the other on an island that preserves ancient culture.
I am responsible for designing and implementing Shantou University's digital services. I need to study how people live in university, design objects that match their needs, and cooperate with external manufacturers to implement them.
With the support of the Bank of China, Tencent and the university's financial resources, we have completed the optimised design of five internal systems, including the one-stop service platform and the campus scene interaction platform, etc.
For better implementation and operation of some projects, I established a consulting firm called "Touching Studio" in 2022. Members include professors and postgraduates from different disciplines and universities. Our studio mainly provides consulting and design services for regions, including planning, visual design and digital services.

Mayu is a small island around Shantou that preserves ancient culture. After the bridge to the island was completed, the increase in tourists aected the local life and environment. Still, the residents' income did not improve due to the arrival. To change that, we work with regional institutions to produce the preliminary strategy. Our goal is to combine experiential tourism with Mayu's culture and stories to bring residents more sustainable income opportunities. With the support of the local government and funds, the project is ongoing.
In March 2022, the Guangdong Provincial Taxation Bureau engaged us to research and design digital experiences for ageing. I work as a design supervisor with designers, programmers and related socials in the team. For six months, we and some elderly have worked together to simplify the complex process and interface. The goal is to make it easier for them to read and operate when applying for social security services, such as pension insurance. The new online service began to be used in Shantou in September. It has now helped about 200,000 older people access social security more easily.
This is a rural planning and design project with "urban-rural linkage" as the starting point. After conducting eld research, based on the village’s natural resources, such as bamboo forests and transportation advantages close to cities. We propose a development plan that includes nature education, active ageing, and tourism, to change the dilemma of local labour loss and ageing. The core is taking advantage of the unique value of the village and attracting more people to experience and live here.
