Framework:
Connecting future with Culture Resonance

11

We realised that the island and its culture are a great medium to connect people on and off the island. We can use the power of culture to form a development trajectory suitable for Mayu.

Project implementation process- How does this framework work?

The "Footprints" Exhibition will open at Shantou University in April 2023,
so please stay tuned!

Focusing on the culture as the core and combining the needs of residential and touristy.
Finally, the following themes are used as initial goals for Mayu development plan.

After determining the core of development, what should be the next step?
In conjunction with our research during this period, we discussed more specific development plans with local authorities, residents and the design team.

The project's core is to connect "island-city-culture-life" to build a sustainable cultural tourism and living system, hoping to benefit tourists and residents from such changes.

The revitalisation and design of a district is a sustainable and iterative process. In October 2022, we launched deeper cooperation with local governments, institutions and volunteer associations. We have developed the following framework to ensure subsequent design actions and implementation.

This is a development framework based on design thinking and participatory design, which aims to facilitate the participation of different social groups in this iterative project. Following the steps of a design project, the framework includes research, insight, ideation, prototyping and implementation. The research-to-ideation component has already yielded some results through initial actions, which can be viewed in the previous reports.

Based on the "cultural resonance", the framework proposes four design objectives in the prototype and implementation phases. The first one is "Co-creation in Mayu", which currently consists of three design initiatives, including "Co-creation Workshops", "Regional Database", and "Footprint Exhibition". The idea is to develop research initiatives, design prototypes and innovative projects in the local area through "Co-creation Workshops". The materials collected and produced during the workshops are collected as design knowledge in the "Regional Database". In contrast, the process and output of the workshops are presented in the "Footprint Exhibition" as a medium for reflection, communication and attracting more social groups to participate. It will be a medium for reflection, transmission and attracting more social groups to participate in co-creation.

The Local Council and government agencies will evaluate the workshop output, and those agreed upon will be further developed and implemented. Our workshops and design initiatives are currently focused on three directions around "living", "relaxation", and "cultural experience". We now have six prospective projects that are seeking funding support. These projects are being deepened through the University's design program.
